t was interesting for me to read the Wikipedia description of Queenstown. It is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. "It is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes, and has spectacular views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak and just above the town; Ben Lomond and Queenstown Hill. Queenstown has an urban population of 12,500 (June 2014 estimate)....". To us, it had the feel of a small town. We also felt that we were the oldest people in town. It seemed that the vast majority of people we saw were under 30. This boosts Queenstown's reputation for adventure tourism. Many of the storefronts that we walked past advertised skiing and snowboarding, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping, paragliding, sky diving, fly fishing, hiking, helicopter sight-seeing and more. Our hotel, the Pinewood Lodge caters to the younger crowd with its many dormitory units and shared kitchens. We had a basic standard room with its own bathroom.
