After an OK breakfast buffet, I ran into Jane Maxwell, Sandy Emerson and Jean Peters along with Martha and Barry Pullen in the lobby. We decided to go exploring in the old section of Granada. It was a long walk down the hill from our hotel past the Alhambra into the Albaycin, the old Moorish quarter. We walked beside the Rio Darro up a road called Pasco de los Tristes - Walk of the Sad Ones. It was so named because it was the route that old funeral processions took to the cemetery. Our destination, however, was the Cave Museum of the Sacromonte . This was where some of the Roma people dug in and lived many years ago.

 

After a long uphill trek, we eventually reached the museum. It was interesting to see all of the small caves, each having a different function. There were caves for living, cooking, keeping livestock, working, etc. It reminded me of other caves I have visited in China and Italy.

 

On our return, we stopped at a bar for refreshments with bread and cheese. We were looking for tapas, but being our first visit to Spain, we were not sure how to find a good tapas bar or how to order them. So we settled on limited snacks.

 

I got ahead of the group on the way down the hill and scouted the hotel where Ann and I are staying later. I also found a really good ice cream shop before trudging back up the hill past the Alhambra to the hotel.

 

Not having anything substantial for lunch, I decided to go to a decent restaurant for dinner. Jean joined me at the nearby Guadalupe Hotel . I had some watery gaspacio and some nicely grilled squid.
